Agronomy - Blends within a Formulation 2007/11/14
(Posted by: Lisa Sick 12/04/2007)

You may include an Inventory Blend within a formula.
Set up the finished product item with the weight of 1 blended unit of measure. Ex. 1-50 lb bag of 9-23-30 = weight 50, UM = lbs
This finished product CANNOT be set up in Fertilizer source file.
Set up the Inventory Blend with the ingredients that make up 1 unit of this finished product.
You may include services within the blend, they must have Item Default records set up to identify them as a service. They will then be hidden within the blend product, not identified individually. They will not be included when % of total weight is calculated for multiplying this blend.

Process:

  • Setup finished product item in Inventory item
  • Setup finished product item (Triple 19) as item code 9 in item master in A/R.
  • Setup recipe/blend in Inventory Blend.

In 8. Inventory, 6. File Setup, 3. Inventory Blends Setup:

Blending is mixing two or more items defined in your Item master file in order to create a new separate item. The blending option allows AgVantage to recognize a finished product that is a combination of items in your item master file.

Type the valid item number and quantity of the item that make up one unit of the blend being created. If the item number exist, the description and the total cost for each item is displayed on the line.

Press F1 to enter the blend.

3. Item Defaults & Conversions

All chemical items must be set up here to have a fast default application rate/acre and a conversion to the unit of measure that you inventory this item in. If they are not set up here, no default rate or unit of measure will be used, you will be required to enter the units on each spray order entry screen. If it is sold in multiple units of measure, they must be added here to know which unit you inventory the item in.
All services must be entered into this file. If the service is offered in multiple units (ex delivery per mile, or per batch), you would set that up in two different items. (You would enter the number of miles in the qty field).
Any fertilizer products that are entered on the chemical screen also need to be entered here.

U6IDM020 Item Defaults 12/04/02 10:25:24
(A,C,I,D) I Item Number 5030 ACCENT SP (2.66 OZ)
Location 000

Default Quantity 2.0000
Default Appl. Unit OZ
Inventory Unit OZ

Enter F4=Prompt F12=Cancel

Item Number
Must be a valid item from the AgVantage A/R item file. Only for location 1, not kept by location. Description shows from a/r item file.

Location
Leave this blank for all locations to have the same defaults. Specify a location here to have one or more items handled differently per location.

Default Quantity and Application Unit
Normal rate/acre to apply this product or unit this product is sold in. Will automatically default to use this rate/acre on the chemical spray order screen. Makes for fast entry. This is the “From” Unit and must be convertible to the “To” Inventory Unit of Measure. It must be a valid From/To unit on the conversion table and a valid Unit of Measure in that table also.

Ex 1: Lasso sold 2 qts/acre. Ex 2: Used 4oz of this product, takes 2 packages from inventory. For every 1 unit applied, it sells 2 ounces. And every one unit of inventory counted/ordered is a 2oz package. Ex 3: 1.0000 oz, oz. An item usually sold by the ounce, should be set up here as 1 ounce and inventory as 1 ounce. Then it may be sold by the quart, but will always be inventoried by the ounce.

You must enter gallons as GAL or GL to get the products (28%) to allow you to enter as gallons instead of lbs.

Inventory Unit
Unit to convert to. Must be valid option from Fert Units File. <F4> to prompt. Ex: Inventory kept in ounces – OZ.

When a new A/R chemical or service item is added, it must be added here also only. When an A/R Chemical or service item is deleted, it must be deleted here too.

Micro-nutrients
Version 4 requires all blend products to be priced in tons or pounds, not both. With Version 5, you have the ability to price Micro-nutrients (zinc, manganese, etc) by the pound. This requires setting up these products here if their units are different than the standard unit.

4. Formulation Options

A formulation tells what ingredients could be mixed, what they are used for, and in what order to mix them. You must enter multiple source products BEFORE individual products to recommend products accurately. You may enter up to 20 fertilizer items, then list any chemicals allowed, then list service that could apply to this recommendation. You may enter a formula entirely of chemicals and services. You may set up a different mixing order per branch by creating a similar formula.

Desired % of Water
Enter the percent of water that this formula should be when it is complete. Blend program will come to this number. 37 = 37%

Desired % of Clay
Clay indicates it’s suspension blend = clay is added to suspend the other non-liquid ingredients so they do not fall to the bottom.

Liquid Blend
Y = Blend should calculate formula to achieve the desired % of water.

Invoice Fert. By Blend
Y = When this formula is invoiced, on the invoice only the name of the blend will print.
N = When this formula is invoiced, on the invoice each item in the formula will print.

Item number if billed by blend
If Y was answered to “Invoice Fert by Blend”, then enter the item number to get the description from for the blend name on the invoice.

Press ENTER to continue to the next screen.

You may include a blend within these formulas.
Set up formulas that have several trace elements available during blending; ie. zinc, manganese, etc. enter them in the formulation and if you needs them, they will be on that screen. If you do not need them, they will not be used nor printed.

Add chemicals to a formula and identify them by putting the C in Default Use. These will then be available automatically on the Chemicals entry screen.

Include services last on each formula, so they will be added automatically onto the blend.

You can have up to 50 items in a formula (we recommend however, for faster entry, to offer more formulas with less items to roll through.)

Add formula zero here with services on it, to get services automatically billed on chemical entry screen also.

You can add lime with type L and use actual pounds.

Item Number
Must be a valid item from your A/R Item file, press F4 to lookup an item.

Item Type
Determines which ingredients to use in fertilizer blends. Use <F4> to prompt for valid choices. Valid types come from your Agronomy Type file. Which fertilizer type is the major component of this product. Ex: Use this to calculate fertilizer this product is; N, P, or K source. To enter multiple Nitrogen sources, enter N2 as the second nitrogen source. Water must be W, Clay must be CL, Services must be FT, DL, BL, or SP. All other types follow the periodic table.

Item Calculating Sequence
The sequence or order that these items need to be mixed in. you want to mix or calculate these.

Item Printing Sequence
Determines the order to print items on the blend sheet. This also accumulates weights in this order. If nothing is entered in print sequence, it will use calculating sequence. The program will calculate water last (to get to 37%), but needs to be added to mixer first (to prevent dry ingredients from hardening. Clay is last.

Default Use? " ", "C", "Y", "N"
This field is now used for more than just services, it is used to identify chemicals also.
A Y or N here, tells the program this is a service and should show on the F10-Services screen in Blends.
Y=Yes Use this service on the majority of blends. Automatically bill this at the rate the item carries, so user doesn’t have to.
N=No Do not bill this service automatically, but have it as an option on the services screen so I can change it to Y and bill it easily.
C=Chemical, tells the program this is a chemical and should show on the F2=Chemicals screen during blends/spray orders. You can remove it during the spray order, but having it show up there automatically will help speed up the majority of the spray orders.
Blank This is not a service or a chemical, it is a fertilizer.

The sequence blended added to allow liquid formulas to put the water in the blender first before the dry ingredients so the dry ingredients don’t turn to concrete in the blender when the water is added.
Water needs to be next to the last at the end of the formulation so we calculate the correct amount of water. Water needs to be fertilizer type "W". Clay needs to be the last item in the formula and it must be type “CL”. This makes it a suspension blend (which contains clay to suspend the fertilizer in the water).

5. Source Information

This source file tells what percent of N, P, K, and other trace elements are in each fertilizer item. It is also used to calculate unit of measure on liquid blends and weight for Ranco Blenders. For chemicals or seed or any product to affect the guaranteed analysis, then they need to be added to this file with a weight. Do not enter services in this file.
