Your Claim to Fame

Do you wander through life and wonder “What will I be remembered for?” For example, will Michelle Blomberg be remembered for the missed, last-second, left-handed lay-up she missed that could have sent her team to the first state tournament in the history of the school?

(Michelle’s Layup – notice the scoreboard….I think I should have had therapy to get over this cuz I still can’t make a left-handed lay-up.)

When I talk to people from all over the country, many seem to think that there is something we need to do to show our worth in life. I visited Dave Seacat from Superior Ag in Huntingburg, Indiana, and he told me that his “claim to fame” is that he’s the reason Larry Bird became a famous basketball player.

When Dave was in high school, he defended Larry Bird the night that Larry scored his career high – actually broke three records that night and it was the reason college scouts started looking at this kid, Larry Bird. From there, you know the rest of the story – Larry became a great college and Boston Celtics superstar. LB is now the owner of the Indiana Pacers. Dave Seacat is the reason!! Nice defense Dave!

But what I wonder is this…does Larry Bird tell people about the night he scored 58 points against Dave Seacat? And now this Dave is at a really cool company called Superior Ag in Huntingburg, Indiana. Larry may be saying to his friend Magic Johnson, “You should see what this company Superior Ag is doing today…they are awesome and are providing really cool service to their customers.” Maybe that’s true!

Many people think they need to get multiple college degrees, Masters, Doctorate Degrees, PHD’s. Others think they need to write their life stories and get published. Some think that they need to be a millionaire, whereas others feel they need to play sports at the professional level or even be a famous actress or actor.

I’m reading a book called “If I Live to be 100.” In the book, they interview people over 100 years old and not one person talks about money, fame, degrees, or books they wrote. They all recognize this…Quality of life is about the lives they’ve touched and love they’ve shown.

When thinking about life, that’s what we should care about each and every day. To, if only in the slightest way, make another person’s life a little better. Right Dave?

Keep Smiling!
Michelle
